Happy Halloween, 31 October 2011

I swear…sometimes, I think the folks at the Chicago Parks District have way, way too much time on their hands.

This ain’t even the half of it…in the evenings, they turn this guy into a gigantic puppet! Mostly, I think, he just stands up and sits down, but he’s located right next to the Fullerton onramp to Lake Shore Drive, so he gets plenty of exposure. It looks like his head and most of his body is made of the same sort of flexible plastic that comprises the bulk of Halloween masks, but his limbs look like they’re parts from actual trees (or hard plastic sculpted to look like very convincing replicas of the same). Pretty impressive, really…I’d like to have one of these, though I have no idea where I’d put it!

BTW, the building in the background is the Theater on the Lake  (completed in 1920 and designed by Perkins, Fellows, & Hamilton; formerly the Chicago Daily News Fresh Air Sanitarium) – a rather large Prairie School building located just east of the northboundFullerton onramp toLake Shore Drive.

Happy Halloween, folks!
